Montreal and Surrounding Area Markets 2012

With most of the farmers’ and community markets opening this month, it’s officially market season! I’ve been getting requests to update last year’s list of markets. Here you go! And yes, there are new ones.

The following lists are ones that are already open or are opening in July. I’ll do a separate post towards the end of this month for the markets that only open in late July or August.  I also have not included Montreal’s big public markets, like Jean Talon. Please note that I have not been to all these markets, so I can not vouch for them. This list is for information only and is not an endorsement of any of the markets.

If you know of any local summer markets I’m missing, please let me know! Also, if you can, please include contact information for the market so I can get in touch with them in regards to dates and hours.

Island of Montreal

Note that community markets are not necessarily farmers’ markets. The community markets tend to be small and designed to bring affordable fresh produce into the community. There is a focus on local products, but there are usually not farm stalls at community markets. Farmers’ markets (marchés fermiers) tend to have farm stalls as well as stalls by vendors selling artisanal food products made with local ingredients.
