Map of Shops that Carry Local, Organic or Fair Trade Food in Montreal

I’ve been slowly working on a GoogleMap of shops, stores, grocers and butchers around Montreal that regularly carry local, organic or fair trade products, especially those that have buying or packaging policies that reflect a local, sustainable or environmental ethic. I’ve been delaying adding the map to the website until it is more complete, however I realise that it may never be complete. Also I’m sure that folks know of neighbourhood gems that I’d never be able to discover on my own.

So… Here it is!!!   I’ve also added three restaurant maps: local/organic/eco-conscious, vegetarian and vegan, and food allergy & sensitivity friendly. I’m hoping that the maps will be useful resources for folks and that eventually I can offer (or link to) similar maps for other cities.

For the food shop map, I’ve only included places that have a regular and good selection of organic, local or fair trade products. If all they carry is the odd fair trade coffee or chocolate bar, I didn’t include them. I’ve taken a similar approach for restaurants. “Market-fresh” alone doesn’t make the grade for the list. I’m looking for restaurants that support local farms or that try to use ingredients that are mostly organic and local.

I’d love to have your feedback on the map and the places in them. Also, if you know of a place we’re missing on these maps, let me know! Leave a comment or drop me an e-mail.

It does include the West Island, as well as Ile Perrot, Vaudreuil, Laval and the South Shore… Well, what little I know about those areas. I don’t get out to them often so I need help from folks to fill in my geographic blanks. If you know of somewhere that should be on any of these maps, please let me know so I can add them!
